Cedar Rapids

Green Iowa AmeriCorps began serving Black Hawk and Linn counties with site offices in Cedar Falls and Cedar Rapids in January 2009. With an extremely successful first year, we opened two additional sites in Decorah (Winneshiek County) and Dubuque (Dubuque County). A new site in Des Moines (Polk County) followed in 2013. In 2016 we started a site in Iowa City! Our two newest sites started in 2018, are Milford and Davenport! With eight site locations, Green Iowa AmeriCorps' services reach thousands of households across Iowa!

Green Iowa has been serving Cedar Rapids since its inception in 2009. The Cedar Rapids site is hosted by Matthew 25 - a local non-profit focused on empowering people to transform their neighborhoods. Matthew 25 is located at 201 3rd Ave SW.

In addition to providing audit and weatherization services, the Cedar Rapids site is involved with a number of projects, including:

- Helping Matthew 25 maintain two acres of the Urban Farm

- Participating in school gardens and garden clubs at Taylor, Madison, and Harrison Elementary, as well as Roosevelt Middle School.

- Partnering with the Linn County Solid Waste Agency to provide tours of the local landfill for over 1200 6th graders in Cedar Rapids

- Helping coordinate EcoFest - an annual festival put on by local eco-friendly entities

- Cleaning designated sections of I-380 and the Cedar River

- And more!
