Green Iowa AmeriCorps began serving Black Hawk and Linn counties with site offices in Cedar Falls and Cedar Rapids in January 2009. With an extremely successful first year, we opened two additional sites in Decorah (Winneshiek County) and Dubuque (Dubuque County). A new site in Des Moines (Polk County) followed in 2013. In 2016 we started a site in Iowa City! Our two newest sites started in 2018, are Milford and Davenport! With eight site locations, Green Iowa AmeriCorps' services reach thousands of households across Iowa!

The City of Iowa City is the host site for Green Iowa AmeriCorps, beginning with the 2016-2017 season. The team works out of the Department of Parks and Recreation. Their main focus is to preform FREE home energy audits for the residents of Iowa city and weatherizations, if necessary.
When the team is not working on audits, they are busy building partnerships and relationships with civic organizations and other service groups in the community, both volunteers and collaborators.
The team works on many of the city's projects with the Park and Rec department. Some projects include: lighting audits to get more efficient lighting in many of the government buildings, lighting for a dog park, and reviewing codes about environmental issues.
In addition to the city departments the team has also partnered with the Office of Sustainability, Resource Management (Recycling), Public Works, the Iowa City Public Library, schools, and the Senior Center. Some of the non-profit partner groups and other civic organizations in and around Iowa City include:
♦ Trees Forever
♦ The Nature Conservancy
♦ Take a Kid Outdoors
♦ Bur Oak Land Trust
♦ Backyard Abundance
♦ University of Iowa’s Office of Sustainability
♦ Johnson County Office of Development and Sustainability
♦ The Johnson County Crisis Center
♦ Table to Table
♦ Kent Park (Johnson County Department of Conservation)
